Northern Dental Specialties has Evolved!

After 6 years, we decided we needed a bit of a change!

As our practice grew, we found the need to look after many of our patients long term, and this meant bringing in some general dentists and hygienists to help!   As that side of the practice grew, we felt the Northern Dental Specialties name no longer reflected what we were doing.

We therefore decided to rename the practice, and in the process, properly delineate the General Practice side of the business from the Specialist Prosthodontics and Implant side.  We therefore launched Barrenjoey Dental ( as our new General Practice and Dr Tom Giblin’s Specialist Practice continues on as Northern Dental Implants and Prosthodontics (, both within the Northern Dental Group.

What is a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontist is a Specialist Dentist (like an Orthodontist) who is trained in the reconstruction and replacement of teeth and optimizing oral function. They have completed 3-4 years of full time advanced postgraduate residency after dental school, receiving training in dental implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, full and partial dentures as well as Adjunct Therapies.

A Prosthodontist is heavily versed in the scientific literature surrounding diagnosis, dental materials, engineering and technical theory, biological aspects of the treatments and clinical technique.

American College of Prosthodontists-

Why visit a Prosthodontist?

Due to the extra experience and academic theory gained during their training, Prosthodontists provide a broader depth of knowledge about your dental treatment and can provide a different perspective to your care. Prosthodontists will often coordinate the use of other dental specialists or general dentists into your treatment, working together to gain the best outcome for you.
