Occlusal Splints

Occlusal splints are oral appliances that are worn to protect teeth and change the posture of the jaws to allow better alignment of the jaw joint and help relieve orofacial pain, clenching or grinding.  There are many designs of splints, but deciding which one to use and the way they are fabricated makes a large difference in the success of the treatment.  The key to splints is not a particular design or type of splint, but in correct diagnosis and assessment.  Some people may need multiple splints, or continuing modification of their splints as treatment progresses.
